The main reason for collecting Canadian stamps is the incredible engraving, artwork and quality of the stamps since the 1800´s to today. They tell the story about Canada, its people, art, heritage, nature, sports, accomplishments, historic moments and more.

THESE STAMPS BELOW ARE MORE THAN 100 YEARS OLD!



A lot of people think collecting stamps is a BORING HOBBY...yet even from childhood, the FUN was getting a group of kids together who also shared this hobby and we would barter and trade stamps, leaf through the Gibbon´s or Scotts Stamp catalogue to find out how much the stamps were worth, and we would share unusual experiences had while collecting...one time I remember some kids from the tough part of town met us to trade stamps and they insisted in going into the next room to "check out" our collections....when in reality their idea was to "steal" a few stamps...we didn´t allow that to happen, but it was funny how they kept insisting that they wanted to view the stamps "alone" with no interruptions!



Here is an incredible example of something very special. Canada issues what is called "First Day Covers" where the post office sells envelopes on the same day they begin to sell a new stamp - the envelope has a story about the stamp and often some images.
My longtime friend since high school, Ron "SCOTTY" Clark Scott, from Vancouver, sent me the following below.
Its the celebration of the anniversary of the Vancouver British Columbia Canada Aquarium, there a stamp was printed to celebrate the event.
On the stamp is a GIRL looking at the Dauphin.

Well, "Scotty" managed to get an autograph of the Rt.Honorable John Nightingale - President of the Aquarium, AND the ARTIST who DESIGNED the stamp PLUS the autograph of the GIRL named KAREN who IS on the stamp! I doubt very much that there are many of THESE First Day Covers in circulation. I have no idea what the value could be, but it is definitely UNIQUE.

WHO said stamp collecting is BORING?







Other experiences include walking to the post office in deep snow and 35 degree below zero temperatures when only 11 years old ...just to buy a few of the new stamps that just came out.



The above stamps and the page below is called a STAMP TRADER SHEET..these are DUPLICATE stamps that I have in my collection that I use for TRADING with other stamp collectors. These stamps are in very good condition and any collector would have no trouble appreciating them, and will find them to be a good addition to his collection.



Stamp collecting, for me, is NOT a business or money making venture...no...its interesting, challenging to try to "fill in" all the pages in the stamp book, and the real fun is the socializing and trading - exchanging stamps and sharing interesting facts and experiences.



Since 1995 I have a standing order with the Post office where I get the latest stamp issues, in duplicates for trading and collecting, as well as the Stamp Magazine that comes out every few months with a full history, photographs and background on all the new issue stamps. Then at the end of the year they send an Album made up of ALL the stamps issued that year, with a full description and background on each stamp subject. Some are really entertaining - one included a CD of Music from Canadian artists featured on stamps.

The CENTENNIAL issue stamps were the most spectacular...souvenir sets were sold in metal cases with felt lining, featuring special stamps for the 1999 - 2000 transition and a mint silver Canadian peace coin.



I had the good fortune to obtain a whole SHEET of the first issue 2000 stamps - a HOLOGRAM stamp actually, the sheet was signed by His Right Honorable André Ouellet, P.C., Q.C., Cheif Executive of Canada Post. Here it is:

It will be a pleasure to connect with anyone out there interested in Collecting Canadian Stamps...or collecting stamps in general. It is not as boring as it may seem, and it can be very interesting.

This was my very FIRST Plate Block set that I recieved as a GIFT from a fellow collector in SOEST West Germany. It was a gift for babysitting a lot longer and later hours in the night than was promised! Because of that night I missed a chance to go to the Friday night school dance, and this was a gift as "compensation". At the time, I guess I did not appreciate this jesture, but today, this little plate block brings back some fond memories of not only that day, but the teen years during our posting in Soest Westfalien Deutschland - Kanadischer Weg nº 5! Sorry! it is NOT for sale or trade!

  This is what is called a PLATE BLOCK, the corner of a large sheet of stamps where you see the name,designer and a number of the sheet and the printing plate that made it. These are much more valuable than just a simple block of 4 stamps.
