My very first visit, as a press correspondent for CKOV Radio - I was allowed inside the VAB building, the Assembly line where the Apollo Moon Landers were being built, and finally, a chance to stand close to the Saturn V rocket with APOLLO 16 on the launch pad - which was finally launched a month later, on the 16th of April 1972.

Thanks to the programmes "CIENCIA Y VIDA - SCIENCE AND LIFE" on Television TEVEI and LOCALIA in INCA, as well as M-7 TELEVISION PALMA with the show "EN ORBITA", I have been able to visit NASA every two years or so with my PRESS CARD and have been able to interview some of the top Astronauts of the NASA SPACE PROGRAM, as well as SCIENTISTS, PROGRAM DIRECTORS and even had an inside COMPLETE and PRIVATE rare tour of the NASA SPACE COMMUNICATIONS station at ROBLEDO, near MADRID.

The Ultima Hora Club hosted a press conference in Palma on the 3rd of February 2011 with Spanish Astronaut Don Pedro Duque who gave an inspiring and amazing presentation of Spain´s new Satelite Imaging project called Deimos Imaging Elecnor. It was an unforgettable presentation.

You can meet and find famous people from, for example the CINEMA, FILMS, SPORTS STARS, FAMOUS AUTHORS, POLITCICIANS, or special people like STEVE JOBS or BILL GATES...there are hundreds of thousands of people in those categories in the world today. BUT only TWELVE MEN went to the moon, and of those twelve men, ONLY ONE MAN IN THE ENTIRE WORLD WENT TO THE MOON TWICE!
In December of 1997 I had the privledge of interviewing and spending an entire afternoon with the last man who lived on the moon for over three and a half days, the only man ever to go to the moon TWICE: Here is his story, and the story of how I met Commander Gene Cernan:
In the EARLY days of the GEMINI progamme, Captain Gene Cernan flew the spacecraft GEMINI IX - Gemini 9, and did a long and complicated space walk. His space suit inflated so much because of the vacume of Space, he could hardly get back into the capsule Gemini IX..he was overheating and his heart was very stressed...but he made it, forcing himself inside the small capsule with all his might.

Captain GENE CERNAN went to the moon in APOLLO 10:
The ABOVE photo is Apollo 10 being transported by the huge CRAWLER to LAUNCH PAD 39A...Gene Cernan went to the moon in Apollo 10 and flew the LUNAR LANDER down to below 16 kilometers of the Lunar Surface...and returned home safely. This flight paved the way for the historic APOLLO 11 landing on the Moon with NEIL ARMSTRONG being the first man to walk on the surface.

Captain GENE CERNAN went BACK to the moon as COMMANDER of the APOLLO 17 MISSION. He was the LAST man on the Moon - He lived there for over THREE and a HALF days. Up to now, no one has been back since.

HOW did I meet Captain Gene Cernan?
Since my days in the Royal Canadian Airforce and later on as a Radio Reporter for CKOV Radio in Kelowna British Columbia Canada, I had the pleasure of visiting NASA very often..the first visit when Apollo 16 was on the launch pad. Here in Mallorca, thanks to TELEVISION INCA - TEVEI and later on LOCALIA Television, on the show "CIENCIA Y VIDA", I have been doing video interviews and reports at NASA at lease once every two years. Then one day in NOVEMBER 1996, I got a call from my contact there, Ms. MELISSA TOMASSO at the NASA Kennedy Space center. She called me at home here in Mallorca inviting me to be a guest at the INAUGURATION of the SATURN V and APOLLO MUSEUM CENTER in DECEMBER. She explained that Captain GENE CERNAN will be the GUEST OF HONOR there, and that I would be able to do an INTERVIEW with him that day.
Once I arrived there, we were escorted to the press gallery right in front of Captain Gene Cernan and the podium. My SON Robbie (Roberto Junior) was doing the filming while I took the advantage of the moments BEFORE the start of the ceremony to INTERVIEW Captain GENE CERNAN for Television Inca.
At the end of the interview, he was considerate enough to give un an AUTOGRAPH - I could have been "selfish" and asked for an autograph in favour of my name, but NO...It was thanks to my colleagues and friends at TELEVISION INCA that gave me this honour, I asked him to sign it, please, in favour of Television Inca.....and he wrote:
"To Television INCA, SPAIN, BEST WISHES from the MOON, GENE CERNAN - Apollo XVII". What more can I say?

After the speeches and presentation ceremonies were over, my Son Robbie and I had a fantastic afternoon where he answered all our questions and gave some really personal insights as to what an adventure it was going to the moon twice was all about. I even have a complete set of Cassette tapes narrated - spoken by the same Captain Gene Cernan..word for word...on his BOOK called "LAST MAN ON THE MOON".
Below is the APOLLO 17 Capsule that brought back Captain Gene Cernan and his crew safely to earth after spending three and a half days on the moon. Notice the BLACK SCARS...the skin of the spacecraft wenth through the earths atmosphere at more than 17,880 kilometers an hour.
Below is the LUNAR MODULE - this cabin exactly like the one where the two astronauts of Apollo 17 lived for 3 and a half days on the moon. They blasted off the moon in this, coupled up to the Lunar command capsule, and came home to earth. The Lunar MODULE was Jettisioned and it burned up in the Earths Atmosphere. Then the 3 astronauts of Apollo 17 landed with their Command Capsule in the ocean to be picked up by an aircraft carrier.
When they were on the Moon, the two astronauts of Apollo 17 had a "moon car" just like this one. Gene Cernan BROKE by accident, the rear left FENDER which was made of a special plastic..(The SPACE SUITS on the moon are VERY bulky and not very flexible..it was easy to "bump" into plastic fenders) ....and he REPAIRED it with grey DUCT TAPE and a plastic coated CHART they had in the Lunar Module!

In this new and beautifully set up Apollo - Saturn V rocket Museum, they have the Apollo 18 Saturn V rocket - that never flew of course due to money cutbacks in the US Congress - fully restored and very well presented here. All I can say is : "Its HUGE!":

Here are a few fotos of some unforgettable visits to NASA - and here below you can see that at the Kennedy Space Center, they had this APOLLO SATURN V rocket OUTSIDE in the open air on display - and the hot sun and weather was degrading it, and the decision to build the above mentioned SATURN V APOLLO Museum giving this important and historic piece of 1960´s technology a dignified home to rest.
We also had the pleasure to visit a SPACE SHUTTLE - I have been inside 3 of them since 1992.

Below are fotos taken by myself of the SATURN FIVE APOLLO MOON ROCKET that never FLEW. They built 20 rockets for the programme Apollo, but stopped the flights to the moon after Apollo 17. These rockets you see here were actually meant to go to the MOON!
Here below is a foto of the famous NASA ROCKET GARDEN - I took this at night where the lighting was very impressive.
This "Rocket Garden" shows a HISTORY of all the different Rockets NASA has used in its space programme since the 1950´s.
A VERY RARE AND PRIVLEDGED EXPERIENCE - to WALK into the module that is NOW in orbit attached to the International SPACE STATION. Also here you can see where they MAKE these Modules that will go into space as Laboratories, Dormitories, Control areas for space experiments and much more. Another foto shows some of the FLAGS of the countries that participate in this construction - very complex and demanding. The space capsule wrapped in PLASTIC is de-contaminated and ready to be put on the SPACE SHUTTLE for launch towards the Space Station.
Another one of lifes interesting HONOURS...a private visit INSIDE the DEEP SPACE COMMUNICATIONS CENTER at ROBLEDO, near MADRID. It is here that a lot of the comunications between ASTRONAUTS, including the APOLLO MOON ASTRONAUTS, passed through these antennas. The directors of the center were incredibly helpful and kind enough to show us the WHOLE inside workings on this, one of the worlds most sophisticated communications center. MANY famoous photographs from Space Craft like VOYAGER, PIONEER, APOLLO, GALILEO, and many many others passed through this center.

Another unforgettable event was the visit of the FIRST SPANISH ASTROANUT to go into SAPCE. He visited PALMA DE MALLORCA to do a public press conference and interview. He was very kind to sign an AUTOGRAPH for my TELEVISION INCA Colleague, Mr. TONY SASTRE and myself on the 8th of MARCH 1997.
